The Best Shoes + How to Pair Them

Shoes complete your outfit. Whether you prefer sneakers, boots, heels or flats, a comfortable and versatile shoe is worth every penny. A few good pairs of shoes will truly make you and your outfit stand out in a crowd. Since you can never have too many shoes, here are all my favorite shoes that are staple items in your collection.

Sneakers

If I could recommend adding any shoe to your collection it would be the slip-on Converse. These have become my favorite everyday shoes because they can be dressed up with a sundress or dressed casually with jean shorts and a band tee. They really are a bang for your buck; my shoes have lasted me quite a while and are easy to clean to make them look brand new! Black high top Converse are such a fun and classic shoe. I love wearing these with leggings in the winter and with jean shorts in the summer; they have such a carefree vibe about them and add a little spice to your outfit. They have many color options, and I own a red and black pair which I have found are great colors for the clothes in my closet. (TIP: when ordering colored shoes, consider the main colors in your closet. If you wear more clothes with blue in them, consider a pair of blue shoes to compliment your wardrobe.)  I know that some people think Converse shoes aren’t very comfortable because the lack of support, but I am not bothered by these black high tops and white slip-ons. I wouldn’t recommend wearing these on long walks or if you know you will be on your feet all day, but they are great for running errands and light walking.

High Heels

High heels are by far my favorite shoes! Although I love how all high heels look on, comfort is number one priority for me and I feel like I have found the perfect heels for me. The INC rhinestone heels are perfect for fun events and look amazing with cocktail dresses. The heel height is a bit tall for a 5’7″ girl like myself, but the height is super easy to walk in and the shoes are surprisingly comfortable. I have not had a problem with the rhinestones coming off, which is such a relief and the heels have aged so well. I have had the Steve Madden black suede heels for probably 3 years and these shoes are the perfect black heel. The height is comfortable to walk in and the suede makes these shoes very easy to style. I also recommend having a black leather pair of heels. Unfortunately, Cole Haan doesn’t sell the exact pair of black leather heels I have, but here is a link to other similar options! (P.S. Cole Haan products go on sale very often and Nordstrom Rack has a wide variety of Cole Haan shoes)

Flats

I usually don’t gravitate towards flats, but I can’t resist a good pair of black flats or Mary Jane style shoes. A plain pair of flats are great to have in your closet because you never know when you will need them. The Micheal Kors Lillie Moccasin Flats have a dynamic style with the MK metal logo at the toe and the extra padding in the soles along with the structure of the shoe make these flats stand out from any other pair that I have tried. Mary Jane pumps are such a classic style, and the Dansko Mary Jane Pumps embrace that classic style. I can’t stress this enough when I say these are the most comfortable formal shoes I have ever worn; I love these shoes and could wear them for hours! Mary Jane pumps are adorable when paired with a skirt, you can really play into the “school” look when styling these shoes!

Espadrilles

My favorite summer shoes are by far espadrilles. They add a spring and summer light and airy feel to any outfit, and I adore paring espadrilles with a floral dress. The beige wedge espadrilles are the perfect versatile shoe as the color can be paired easily with every color palette. The Style & Co espadrilles are a great staple item in your closet and the extra cushion is a big help for comfort! A flat pair of espadrille sandals are an easy shoe to throw on to give your outfit a little more style. My go-to pair this summer were the Naturalizer Soul Detail 2 in black. The ankle band can be tight at first, but once you wear them in they are so stylish and easy to throw on to run errands, but can also be dressed up fancy with a nice summer dress.

Boots

Black leather knee high boots are such a great pair of shoes for the fall and winter seasons. Paired over skinny jeans or with a mini skirt, they are such a statement piece that makes you look like the fashionista superstar that you are. For a bold shoe like this, you only need one nice quality pair that will last you through many fall and winter seasons, and the INC International Concepts boot is a classic style that won’t break the bank. Last but certainly not least, a pair of cowboy boots is a fun addition to your shoe collection! The slouch boot style from Cavender’s adds a girly touch rather than a basic pair of cowboy boots; they are very comfortable if you have narrow feet.  I love pairing my cowboy boots with a dress and sweater for a dinner out with my family or  special occasions paired with jeans and a nice top! I think that every pair of cowboy boots are unique and can be styled however you want; you can really get creative with them.
